For A Limited Time relies on collector interventions to memorialize moments in the artwork’s process over 12 months. The artwork marks an evolution in how Versteeg engages with collectors, embedding traces of their online identities into the artwork’s metadata each time a collage is minted. While the artist often sources information from publicly available datasets, For A Limited Time invites collectors to curate a narrative of current events by selectively minting one of the artist’s collages.

To create a collage, For A Limited Time sources images from trending news articles. Then, using the scraped images as a medium, Versteeg’s program obscures, layers, or otherwise manipulates the found imagery with brushstrokes trained in the artist’s signature abstract expressionist style. Viewable as a web-based installation, collages created assemble in a cache of 9 mintable images before being burned.
