MEMENTO MEMORIAE is a media-rich palimpsest by award-winning poet, language artist and AI researcher Sasha Stiles, whose explorations of the post/human condition frequently explore poetry as an ancient and enduring data storage system.
This adaption of an original text (written in 2018/2019 and first published 2021 in the book TECHNELEGY) interpolates generative metaphors – digital poem-objects that suggest the potential of AI-powered large language models to conjure embodied figures of speech and visualize the liminal space between word and image, observed and imagined, known and as-yet-unknown.
Thematically, the poem ponders the unreliability of humanity as its own narrator while suggesting a deep-rooted connection between memory and technology. Performed by Sasha Stiles in 2022, with original music by Kris Bones.
