Born in the small village of Nelahozeves, Dvořák was able to accomplish tremendous feats for a boy from the rural Czech countryside. Dvořák drew inspiration from Czech folklore to compose his great symphonies, which were heard in concert halls throughout Europe and America, and continue to be played all over the world today. Santoro’s work depicts the unlikely achievement that was the global dissemination of Dvořák’s music, one that promoted Czech culture worldwide — even extending beyond the bounds of Earth’s atmosphere. It is said that Symphony no. 9, “From the New World,” was taken to the moon on the Apollo 11 space mission which, as a lover of all things sci-fi, Santoro could not resist alluding to, while at once showing the magnitude of Dvořák’s music and influence on the world.
Non-Fungible Castle 2022 explores how blockchain technology can be used to rediscover, share, and preserve our cultural identities. The exhibition created and exhibited NFTs to represent different artistic forms of expression, serving as a permanent cultural record and fostered a platform to discuss how the art world can use blockchain technology to celebrate our heritage, build a community of cultural stewards, and encourage storytelling to reconnect with our cultural roots.
