In the Cubic Limit series, Manfred Mohr introduced the cube into his work as a fixed system for generating signs. In the first part of this work phase (1972-76), an alphabet of signs is created from the twelve lines of a cube. In some works, statistics and rotation are used in the algorithm to generate signs. In others, combinatorial, logical and additive operators generate the global and local structures of the images.
In mathematics, combinatorics is a subject primarily concerned with counting sets, subsets and other discrete, and certain properties of finite structures both as a means and an end in obtaining results. Combinatorial mathematics govern the selection of a given number of elements from a larger number without regard to their arrangement. Combinatorics is related to randomness in the sense that whenever one has a choice to make, the study of the range of that choice is a combinatorial problem.
