Born with a bilateral severe-profound hearing loss, swimming is unique experience for me. My hearing aids are not waterproof which means I swim completely deaf. I've always been fascinated by the different textures, colors, reflections of the ocean. I never thought I'd be swimming in the frigid, wave-less seas of Washington State but once I dipped my toes, I was hooked. The ocean here feels thick and holds a mysterious tone with its darkness. Without any hearing, my visual senses are heightened and I get so much joy in noticing the fine details of water & light.
