Maria Fynsk Norup is an award winning, self taught visual artist and photographer, based on the Danish island of Ærø. She’s formally educated in the field of botany from the Natural History Museum of Denmark and The Royal Botanic Gardens Kew, London. Her love for the natural world inevitably appears in the visual storytelling of her works.
Maria primarily uses self-portraits as the medium for storytelling in her work, currently creating imagery that revolves around exploring femininity, and the human-nature interconnection. Her inspiration often draws directly from dreams and emotions, including her own background as a survivor of sexual assault and depression, her work can therefore vibrate with a dark undertone.
Influenced by the use of light, form and shadow, immortalised by painters like Caravaggio, Titian and the Danish Vilhelm Hammershøi, she works to tell her stories from a female point of view. Using herself (and occasionally her daughters) as a model, she creates stories grounded in our environment – stories about vulnerability, raw emotions, our connection to nature, and our place in the world.

“FROM THE EDGES” – MELANCHOLY AESTHETICS Photo art at Galleri Øckenlund Cold January offers a photo exhibition that appeals to the aesthetic eye. .
Maria Fynsk Norup's pictures are staged art photos where the body, time and space are explored. The body shines brightly on the dark background and creates contrast, so it attracts attention. It moves in extreme positions, as if it is exploring its own boundaries and those of the surrounding space. Her works are very aesthetic; completely harmonized in their colours, lines and shapes, which almost appear graphic. Here, too, you feel like composing stories based on the motifs. Both artists balance on the mixture of melancholic motifs and hyperaesthetic idioms.

The Light Annual Series is a collective celebration showcasing excellence in photography while capturing the state of photography and NFT culture each calendar year. By featuring excellence in photography from a wide collective of 100 artists, the Alpha Collection (2022) hopes to harness the power of web3 to elevate the entire photography community. It aims to become an artistic and market benchmark collection for photography NFTs. The word Alpha was chosen to mean that the collection is a "first version" or "inaugural experiment", but also pokes at the financial term meaning excess returns, which is colloquially applied to both cryptocurrencies as well as NFT art.
Alpha Collection photographers come from different walks of life representing the vast opportunity in NFTs today. Established pre-digital photographers are represented side-by-side with the Instagram-famous and the NFT-native. However, they all have one thing in common: they created beautiful, emotional, meaningful and coveted images which will be forever immortalized in the blockchain and shape the future of photography for years to come.
